Ralis "Aplink Lietuvą-2008"

Šių metų spalio mėn. 18-19 dienomis vyksta Lietuvos automobilių ralio atviro čempionato VII etapas, ralis "Aplink Lietuvą-2008", LR Prezidento Taurei laimėti.

"Aplink Lietuvą-2008" startavo spalio 18 d. Kauno rotušėje. Tai paskutinis - septintasis Lietuvos automobilių ralio atviro čempionato etapas, po kurio turėtų paaiškėti pirmenybių turnyrinė lentelė.

Ralius „Aplink Lietuvą" nuo pat jų pradžios rengia Tarptautinės automobilių federacijos (FIA) narys - Lietuvos automobilių klubas (LAK), įkurtas 1926 metais.

Kaip buvo pasakojama per šios dienos atidarymo ceremoniją, pirmasis ralis "Aplink Lietuvą" surengtas 1931-ųjų liepos 24-ąją. Tą dieną 14 automobilių ir 12 motociklų kolona pradėjo maratoną aplink Lietuvą. Jo nugalėtojų laukė šalies Prezidento Antano Smetonos įsteigtas specialus prizas - puiki sidabrinė taurė, kurią pagal specialų užsakymą pagamino Vokietijos juvelyrai.

Ralio finišas - Spalio 19 d. 17.15 val. Vilniuje, S. Daukanto aikštėje šalia Prezidentūros. Tą dieną greičiausieji lenktynininkai bus apdovanoti ne tik Prezidento Valdo Adamkaus taure, bet ir kitomis įspūdingomis - Ūkio, Susisiekimo, Socialinės apsaugos ir darbo, Krašto apsaugos ministerijų, Kūno kultūros ir sporto departamento, Lietuvos automobilių sporto federacijos, Lietuvos automobilių klubo taurėmis ir prizais.

Well among these quite nice advantages, there are and some disatvantages

Main disadvantages:

• Inadequate battery life
• No camera lens protection
• The N81-inspired design
• No office document editing out of the box
• Doesn't charge via the USB port
• Dreadful camera key
• Cheap looking keypad
• Unreasonably hefty price tag

As I have noticed in Lithuania it is quite expensive for the real so far. As you can see gsmarena names quite serious disatvantages. I could say that battery life is quite important for mobile devices, but in this case we have as I understand not the best situation.
The design is not so bad I would say, but realy reminds N81 :).
I would say that at first look it realy looks similat to Nokia N81. Ofcourse the features are a bit different.

Talking about products, this week, Google said it would provide RSS feeds of search results, Yahoo updated its calendar app using Zimbra, Mozilla released Geode, Microsoft integrated its Live search into Facebook, and more.

Social media and shopping

We can see that social media is quite evolving, according readwrite, what began as a way to "hang out" with friends online has morphed into an entirely new platform for communication, information sharing, and marketing. Various organizations or businesses in other words are discovering that they have to be online and to be the best ones online. But maintaining a web presence alone isn't enough anymore. According to new research from August 2008, web retailers are now actually trying to engage that demographic segment using social media.

Google to offer RSS feeds of search results

It seems to be true a rumor that Google will offer RSS feeds for new results in basic web search. This week Search Engine Land confirmed that Google will "soon" offer this functionality.Various web experts decided that is great news, because there's no better way to keep track of new mentions of a company, person or concept online than RSS.

Yahoo Calendar

Yahoo this week announced a closed beta of a major update to its online calendaring application, which will feature a tighter integration with Yahoo Mail and other Yahoo properties. The new calendar is based on the Zimbra platform.

Mozilla Geode

One more interesting thing from Mozilla. Geode is a Firefox add-on that understands location, enabling enriched, personalized, and localized content. According to Mozilla, geolocation information can improve the experience for mobile users. This add-on might be useful and for static users. It might help to find truly relevant information. By enabling the dynamic localization of information in the browser, Mozilla may be helping users find truly relevant information, and that, may make the Web even more valuable resource.

So as we can see almost every day we can here or see about new features, apps, trends, startups. The question might be which of them are truly valueble and creating the value for there users.?

Online privacy policies

Online privacy becomes more and more important. This is related and with still growing number of various web apps, others web 2.0 features.
A new report by Carnegie Mellon University, authored by Aleecia McDonald and Lorrie Faith Cranor, states that online privacy policies take an average of 10 minutes to read. If every U.S. web user read the privacy policy at every site they went to, the time spent reading privacy policies would total 44.3 billion hours per year. Their recommendation? Regulation. They concluded that regulation might be necessary to "provide basic privacy protections."

Of course, you can imagine a lot of companies are not happy over this proposal, specifically those that take advantage of long privacy policies which they know no one reads.

Cranor, who's also a member of the EFF, thinks that people shouldn't have to read these extensive privacy policies in order to protect themselves - the FTC should get involved and regulate if companies aren't willing to improve the readability of these online documents.

If a privacy policy is long, does that mean it fails?

Privacy policies today only seem to be there for the hyper-aware online citizen for whom privacy is a major concern. The rest of us just hear about the breaches of trust when one of those folks takes the time to read the long and boring legalize and then warns the rest of us of their findings.

Alissa Cooper, chief computer scientist at the Center for Democracy & Technology, argues that "It's not only that they're long, but they're also complicated. They're not really written for your average Internet user to understand them."

The average internet user? There might be a question, what is the average internet user, the one who spents only a couple of hours on the internet per month?

Alissa Cooper added that the Center for Democracy & Technology has been considering ways to make privacy policies smaller and more manageable.

*Privatumo taisyklės

Duomenų apsauga ir privatumas internete šiomis dienomis yra ypatinga svarbūs klausimai. Tai siejasi ir su vis gausėjančiu paslaugų pasiekiamų per internetą spektru bei kitomis taip vadinamomis web 2.0 galimybėmis.

Aleecia McDonald ir Lorrie Faith iš Carnegie Mellon paskelbė pranešimą susijusį su privatumo internete taisyklėmis. Pranešime teigiama, jog vidutiniškai perskaityti privatumo taisykles užtrunka apie 10 minučių. Taigi jei kiekvienas Jungtinių Amerikos Valstijų interneto vartotojas skaitytų šias taisykles kiekviename aplankomame tinklalapyje, vidutiniškai per metus sugaištų apie 44.3 billijonus valandų. Pranešime rekomenduojama taikyti reguliacijos mechanizmą, kuris garantuotų pagrindinę privatumo apsaugą.

Gali susidaryti vaizdas, jog privatumo taisyklės/politika yra tik super atidiems ir besilaikantiems saugumo taisyklių interneto vartotojams.

Alissa Cooper teigimu, privatumo taisyklės/politika turėtų būti ir "įskaitomos". Sakoma, kad dažniausiai tai nėra skirta vidutiniam interneto vartotojui. Šioje vietoje gali kilti klausimas, koks gi yra vidutinis interneto vartotojas, gal toks kuris per mėnesį internete praleidžia tik keletą valandų?

Pasak Alissa Cooper, "Democracy & Technology" centras svarstė būdus kaip padaryti privatumo taisykles mažesnės apimties ir labiau valdomas.

Šiomis rugsėjo dienomis vyko Baltijos šalių ir Lietuvos automobilių žiedinių lenktynių čempionatų paskutiniojo, septintojo etapo lenktynės ir 4 val. lenktynės, kurių dalyviai varžėsi dėl spaudos namų "ARX BALTICA" taurės ir kitų įspūdingų prizų bei dar viena sezono naujovė - BMW taurės lenktynės.

There is quite an interesting article in Readwriteweb. It’s about reading blogs at work. After this sentence there might be some thoughts that if you're not reading blogs at work, you may not be doing your job as well as you could be.

Pasak šio tyrimo, kokybiškiausiu interneto ryšiu mėgaujasi Japonijos gyventojai. Lietuvai sąraše teko 7 vieta. Tyrimas atliktas remiantis tik greičio matuoklės www.speedtest.net duomenimis.
Kiek nustebino toks galima sakyti visai neblogas lietuviškojo interneto įvertinimas, nors greičiausiai per daug tuo džiaugtis neverta. Juk rezultatai tik iš vienos interneto greičio matuoklės (TEO internetas kartais dar iškrečia pokštų).
Toliau apie tyrimą rašoma, jog buvo siekiama išsiaiškinti, kaip valstybių interneto infrastruktūra yra pasiruošusi naujos kartos interneto programoms ir paslaugoms.
Pagrindiniai tyrimo kriterijai buvo interneto greitis (atsisiuntumo ir nusiuntimo), duomenų paketų praradimo dažnis ir ryšio vėlavimas.

Mūsų kaimynai latviai užėmė ketvirtąją vietą. Verslo žinių nuomone stebėtina, kad į geriausiųjų dešimtuką nepateko Didžioji Britanija, Ispanija, Italija, JAV. Gal būt tai siejasi su tuo, jog tyrimui naudota tik vieno šaltinio informacija.

Gyvenimiška tiesa

Šiandien Vadybinių sprendimų paskaitą buvo išplėtota unikali hipotezė, o gal vertėtų sakyti buvo išsiaiškinta priežastis, kodėl tiek daug vyrų vadovauja firmoms, kuriose dirba tūkstančiai žmonių. Vyrai vadovauja tūkstantinėms žmonių minioms, kadangi nesusikalba su viena vienintele moterimi - savo žmona. Taip jau susiklostė, kad nuo senų laikų moterys kursto namų židinį, o vyrai eina uždirbti pinigų. Moterys tampa motinomis ir imasi vadovauti šeimai. Ko pasekoje, vyrai neturėdami kam vadovauti kuria firmas :)

Pirmoji rudens diena, pirmoji Rugsėjo diena, mokslo ir žinių diena. Vieniems tai pirmasis žingsnis į mokslo ir žinių pasaulį, kitiems - dar vieni metai siekiant mokslo ir žinojimo viršūnės.

Zapyškiui 500

Rugpjūčio 30 dieną 500 metų jubiliejų mini Kauno rajone esantis Zapyškio miestelis, įsikūręs kairiajame Nemuno krante.
Pagal įvairiuose leidiniuose nušviečiamą renginio programą, pačios šventės pradžią susidaro vaizdas, jog miestelis gana rimtai ruošėsi šiai sukakčiai.
Šventės minėjimas numatytas Šv. Jono ankstyvosios gotikos bažnyčioje, Zapyškyje ant Nemumo kranto.
Šventė prasidėjo Atminimo akmens atidengimu, dalyvavo senovinės muzikos ir šokių ansamblis „Festa cortese", Lietuvos nacionalinės premijos laureato Čiurlionio kvarteto koncertas, speciali programa vaikams, iliuzionisto Nikolajaus Jegorovo šou.
Toliau šventėje numatytas koncertas su ryškiausiomis šalies žvaigždėmis - Žilvinu Žvaguliu, Irena Starošaite, Giulija ir kt.
Ir kaip dažniausiai būna švenčių atveju programos pabaigą vainikuos šventinis fejerverkas.

Trumpai apie Zapyškį

Zapyškio pavadinimas kilo nuo jame esančio dvaro, kuris įkurtas XVI amžiuje. Anksčiau jis priklausė Sapiegoms, todėl buvo vadinamas Sapiegiškiu, bet vėliau imtas vadinti Zapyškiu.

1655 metais miestelį sudegino rusų kariuomenė. 1825-1847 metais Zapyškis gavo miesto teises. 2005 metais Prezidento dekretu buvo patvirtintas ir jo herbas.

Try Command & Conquer: Red Alert

August 31, marks the 13th anniversary of the original "Command & Conquer: Red Alert", the classic PC real-time strategy game from Westwood Studios.

To mark the occasion, long-time publisher Electronic Arts is giving away the game for free. According to Shack News, EA did not indicate for how long the download will be available, but it will be available all day on the 31st.

That could be the great chance to try this quite highly rated game.

Lithuanian beach, sand might be suitable place for parties or calm relaxation as any other Europe's beach. According to "The Guardian" "Kuršių Nerija" is one of the most interesting beaches in Europe. "The Guardian" makes it second in its top ten list.
A narrow finger of land poking into the Baltic Sea, the 98km-long Curonian Spit is one of Europe's more unlikely beach destinations.
The first place is for the Cala d‘en Serra Ibiza's (Spain) most famous beach.
The third place is for the Poland, the beach at Caños de Meca curves inland from the Cabo de Trafalgar.

Lietuvos pajūris

Lietuvos paplūdimys gali būti idomus ir tinkamas vakarėliams kaip ir bet kuris kitas Europos paplūdimys. "The Guradian" sudarytame įdomiausių paplūdimių dešimtuke Lietuvos Kuršių Nerija pateko į antrąją vietą.
Pirmoji vieta atiteko Cala d‘en Serra paplūdimiui Ibizoje (Ispanija) ten galima džiaugtis gyventojų draugiškumu, nuošalumu, balto smėlio paplūdimiais ir pajūrio barais.
"The Guardian" taip pat įvardijo ir pagrindiniais Kuršių nerijos privalumus , tai kopas, pajūrio kaimelius, gintaro suvenyrus bei ramybę, kuri vilioja poilsiautojus čia pasilikti.

Just think about it again

...some people is just dreaming and saying "oh it's just a dream... it'll never come true" and there is other people who looks happy because their dreams are comig true. did you ever think why is so? if you want all your dreams can come true just you shouldn't think " oh it's just a dream..it'll never come true" it was first step to make your dream reallity. Second and third and fourth steps are DO SOMETHING to make it come true :D easy .. and there is one more step - don't be afraid :) good luck ;)

Just think about it

...people are saying that it is beter do not make plans for future, they are saying that then plans have tendency to fall down. Maybe it is true. BUT i think there is one plan, the best one, suitale for everything and everyone - THE PLAN "NO PLAN" :D yes the best plan "there is no plan" if it fall down - it will be jus a part of the plan :) it is the same like RULES - " NO RULES" :)

Finaly Lithuania has long waited own internet gates: lietuva.lt. You may find there facts about Lithuania, news, and other important information related to history, economic, science and education, culture, tourism, sport.
So far the main theme of the web site is 2008 Olympics. You may find there information about lithuanian team and etc...
I ques that after the Olympics the main theme should be differrent. Is it logical to keep Olympical theme, after the end of this years Olympics, to represent Lithuania?. This website should represent earlier stated brave country idea.

Olympics 2008 openning

Once again about this year's Olympics. Today it is the openning day.
Here is some information about lithuanians, this year Lithuania has 71 sportsman in the Olympics. The official website tells that, Jasikevicius will take Saulius Stombergas' place, his former teammate who carried Lithuania's flag in Athens. "I didn't expect it, but what I can I say, it's a great honor."
So let's watch the openning ceremony.. :)

Olimpiada 2008 šiandien

Sulaukėme ir Olimpiados atidarymo, jis turėtų būti šiandien 15:00 val..:). Lietuvos sportininkų skaičius šioje Olimpiadoje – 71 (59 individualių sporto šakų atstovai ir 12 krepšininkų), jie varžysis 16-oje sporto šakų. Iš viso šalies olimpinę rinktinę kartu su treneriais, medikais ir vadovais sudaro apie 120 asmenų.
Kaip jau visi tikriausiai gerai žino, šiemet olimpiada vyksta Kinijos sostinėje Pekine ir prasideda rugpjūčio mėnesį, 8 dieną 8 valandą 8 minutės ir 8 sekundės (2008-08-08 08:08:08) vietos laiku (2008-08-08 15:08:08 Lietuvos laiku).

Remiantis Verslo Žiniomis, lietuvos olimpiečiai 29-osios olimpiados žaidynių atidarymo parade, kuriame dalyvaus 204 olimpinės delegacijos, žygiuos 57-ta. Lietuvos vėliavą žaidynių atidarymo parade neš krepšininkas Šarūnas Jasikevičius. Prieš ketverius metus Lietuvos delegacijos priešakyje žygiavo krepšininkas Saulius Štombergas.

Prieš Lietuvos atletus eis Indonezijos atstovai, o po lietuvių žygiuos Nigerio sportininkai. Latviai žygiuos 114-ti, estai - 160-ti.

2008 Olympics online

As we all know The Beijing Olympics starts in a couple of days.
Due to this event there some websites trying to stream Olympics on the web. The New York Times reported today that NBC will stream 2,200 hours of live events across 25 sports on NBCOlympics.com. According to the NYT, NBC will use the Internet to "send out mass quantities of video in high resolution". The only catch is that the coverage will only be available to users in the United States, because that's the only place where NBC has rights to broadcast the Olympics.
Despite the geographical limitations, NBC is promising lots of 'new media' features in its Web coverage. These include: Users will have access to statistics, biographies and other information;
Users have the ability to watch whatever sport they want, unlike on TV where you get what the broadcaster dishes up; and more other features.
There is one more website that is going to stream Olympics online. Today, Adobe announced a partnership with CCTV International Networks Co, Ltd. to deliver Web coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games to fans throughout mainland China and Macau.

Knol Experts

Do you know such websites like Squidoo lensmasters or Wikipedia? There is one more. Google had opened up Knol, its Wikipedia competitor, to the public. It had announced a private beta of the service last December.
So is Knol a competitor to Wikipedia.? One of the oppinions might be related with the fact that Google Knol might be promoted by leader of search engine market. And this might cause some hard times to other similar websites. On the other hand Wikipedia has some authority so far. It could be the strong argument for choosing Wikipedia's articles. But non anonymous articles could have there own plus.
Let's take the different perspective to this. Maybe the bigger amount on internet encyclopedias could be useful and for the readers. For example that could cause the creation of more specific internet encyclopedias. The information from various sources could be more complex, more comprehensive.
In addition, I have to say, that Google get quite lots of attention on the web these days. Various blogs even dedicate one of the week days to write only about Google news...

Šia savaitę viešai startavo internete jau anonsuota Google enciklopedija Knol. Įvairūs tinklalapiai ir tinklaraščiai pradėjo lyginti internetines enciklopedijas tokias kaip Wikipedia, Squidoo lensmasters. Trumpai apibendrinant galima būtų pasakyti, jog Knol sistemoje staripsniai žada būti autoriniai. Tai galėtų būti vienas iš privalumų, lyginant su anonimiais straipsniais. Taip pat tikriausiai galima tikėtis ir to, jog paieškos sistemoje Knol įrašai gali būti iškeliami aukščiau. Pažvelgus iš vartotojų pusės į šį reikalą tikriausiai galima pamatyti ir pozityvių dalykų. Enciklopedijų daugėjimas internete gali paskatinti siauresnės specializacijos žynynų atsiradimą. Tikslesnės, išsamesnės informacijos pateikimo ta pačia tema skirtinguose šaltiniuose. Old mobile phones are lying in drawers

There is quite interesting research frorm Nokia. According to this research only 3% of people recycle their mobile phones despite the fact that most have old devices lying around at home that they no longer want, according to a global consumer survey released by Nokia today. Three out of every four people added that they don't even think about recycling their devices and nearly half were unaware that it is even possible to do so.

The survey is based on interviews with 6,500 people in 13 countries including Finland, Germany, Italy, Russia, Sweden, UK, United Arab Emirates, USA, Nigeria, India, China, Indonesia and Brazil. This research might show some consumers' attitudes and behaviors towards recycling.

According to, Markus Terho, Director of Environmental Affairs, Markets, at Nokia said, "It is clear from this survey that when mobile devices finally reach the end of their lives that very few of them are recycled. Many people are simply unaware that these old and unused mobiles lying around in drawers can be recycled or how to do this. Nokia is working hard to make it easier, providing more information and expanding our global take-back programs." He added, "If each of the three billion people globally owning mobiles brought back just one unused device we could save 240,000 tonnes of raw materials and reduce greenhouse gases to the same effect as taking 4 million cars off the road. By working together, small individual actions could add up to make a big difference."

There is a quite interesting phone from Nokia. Today was introduced the Nokia 6212 classic featuring integrated Near Field Communication (NFC). The 3G handset allows consumers to conveniently share content, access services and information as well as conduct payments and ticketing with one tap of the device. The Nokia 6212 classic is expected to start shipping in the third quarter of 2008 in select markets in Europe and Asia with an estimated retail price of EUR 200 before taxes and subsidies.

"NFC-capable handsets such as the Nokia 6212 classic are set to change the way mobile phone users interact with devices and services in their surroundings," says Jeremy Belostock, the Head of Near Field Communications, Nokia. "With the Nokia 6212 classic, people can swap items like business cards or calendar notes by simply tapping their handsets together. With ever-increasing device functions and services available, ease-of-use is essential. One way to keep things simple is NFC."

According to Nokia, Near Field Communication is designed for intuitive, simple and safe interaction between electronic devices. World’s First dual-SIM Windows Mobile Smartphones

Some time ago there was an article about dual-SIM mobile phones here. And there are some more news about dual - SIM phones again, but this time it is about so called smartphones.

One of the firts dual sim mobile phones is Samsung D780. Now we have some news, that HKC made quite a surprise with what they’re calling the world’s first dual-SIM Windows Mobile smartphones. The design of the W1000 and G1000 (the former being dual CDMA and GSM, the latter dual GSM) may not light any new aesthetic fires, but their functionality is quite reasonable: a 200MHz Qualcomm CPU, 256MB ROM and 64MB RAM, microSD slot and USB, crowned by a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen.

One of the reason why it is interesting is the ability to not only have two SIM cards fitted but to access them at the same time (or, in the case of the W1000, registered to a CDMA account as well as have a GSM SIM in place), including being able to separately deactivate one or the other from the Windows Mobile interface. That way it is possible to keep personal account active, but avoid the office calling you by turning off your business account.

Both versions are apparently available now, with 2-megapixel cameras, Bluetooth (with the A2DP wireless stereo profile) and the usual WM office suite. No WiFi or GPS, which HKC lose marks for, though there is a dedicated stock market hotkey.

It seems like every week scientists invent something new. One of the such inventions might be tiny machines.
According to dailytech.com, Researchers with the International Center for Young Scientists in Tsukuba, Japan have invented what has been dubbed a "nano - brain". The tiny chemical brain is only 2 nm across. The researchers envision the nanobrain controlling swarms of useful nanorobots to kill viruses and cancer cells. The article gives and some examples as a proof, that scientist can control those machines. Such a machines might be used and in computing, making personal computers able to deal with a bigger number of tasks at one time.
While you might not see the chemical nano-brain in the next round of personal computers processors, it remains a promising breakthrough in nanotechnology, that hopefully brings us one step closer to curing disease through microscopic helpers..

Let's talk a bit about online video.

Hulu, an online video service, announced the public launch of its Web site, Hulu.com, that was yesterday.

As it is said in Hulu's press release, consumers in the U.S. can go to Hulu.com to watch a large selection of hit TV shows, movies, clips and more in high-quality – anytime, for free. In addition, Hulu announced new content partnerships with the Warner Bros. Television Group, Lionsgate, NBA, NHL and more than 20 other top content providers. New content additions to Hulu’s library will include: feature films like The Usual Suspects and Ice Age, shows like Dirt, The Incredible Hulk, Babylon 5, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and The Dick Van Dyke Show, nightly highlights, top plays and full-length games from the NBA and the NHL, popular made for web programming such as Prom Queen and Onion News Network, and much more.

This sounds quite greate, but there is one "but", it is said that this is for the U.S. consumers. I have tried to watch a TV show "Nanny and the Professor" and I got the message "Unfortunately this video is not curently available in your country or region. We apologize for the inconvenience." So this is not available in Europe.

At first look seems to be quite not bad site. Is there something like that in Europe?:)

Morph - Nanotechnology mobile phone

Back with a quite interesting announcement from Nokia.

Nokia Research Center (NRC) and the University of Cambridge (UK) have developed Morph - a joint nanotechnology concept. It was launched last month alongside the "Design and the Elastic Mind" exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.

Morph is a concept that demonstrates how future mobile devices might be stretchable and flexible, allowing the user to transform their mobile device into radically different shapes. According to Nokia press release It demonstrates the ultimate functionality that nanotechnology might be capable of delivering: flexible materials, transparent electronics and self-cleaning surfaces. Dr. Bob Iannucci, Chief Technology Officer, Nokia, commented: "Nokia Research Center is looking at ways to reinvent the form and function of mobile devices; the Morph concept shows what might be possible".

So maybe in the near future we might expect and more nanotechnology concepets from Nokia.
